■ Our story

It all began in 2005, when Sidney Habegger, a self-taught technician with a passion for mechanics, became interested in converting heat into mechanical energy. In 2009, he designed his first prototype: a solar-powered water pump that utilized the thermal expansion of aluminum. Although simple and ingenious, this model revealed the limitations of the materials used. From 2010 to 2013, his research focused on solutions using gases and air, while also studying existing technologies such as the Wankel engine and Roots pumps. From this experimental phase emerged the idea of an eccentric rotary piston to drastically reduce friction. In 2013, the first three functional prototypes were developed. Then, in 2015, a major innovation improved the design: the addition of a floating central piston, optimizing efficiency and reliability. That same year, Sidney Habegger and Alain Pisteur filed the AUREON patent. Since then, the project has been structured around academic partnerships with the engineering schools in Fribourg and Yverdon, validating the technology’s potential and paving the way for industrialization.
Today, AUREON is poised to take a new step: moving from the laboratory to the market, transforming a promising invention into an industrial solution ready to revolutionize the compact energy markets.
